Being born a couple of years before what actually is considered a baby boomer, it makes me feel very sad that we are not recognized by the media and advertiser's. If you look at the beauty magazine's or TV advertisements, most of the advertising is directed to a younger generation. Occassionally, The Today show will do a makeover for an older woman or feature an older woman for a particular topic. Even actresses and actors that are in the older generation have a hard job getting good parts. Personally, I feel like 18 years old in my heart even though the outside appearance looks older. If anyone out there wants to start writing letters to the advertiser's that our generation counts and has the purchasing power, that would be great. Any idea's?

Karen, I am a full-fledged baby boomer and an actor as well. So I have felt what you so astutely noticed from the point of view of a a consumer as well as a frustrated performer and it's not only women who feel as we do.
My boyfriend and I, along with the help of two of our friends have decided to take some control of our situation and are producing our own web series called "50 to Death". It is the comedic adventures of three boomers who joust with the 21st Century. Many boomer actors are faced with the daunting task of creating work so we CAN work. We are doing our own writing, producing, and acting and can be found at the website 50todeath.com. We have just begun but will remain undaunted in our goal to bring humor and perhaps some advertisers to our generation. Please take a look and see if this coincides with your point of view.

Personally, I don't particularly care about what the media thinks of me. I don't depend upon them, or the government, for my income or lifestyle.

Babyboomers have so much to offer, in wisdom, experience and overall perspective on life. One day the shallow media will recognize that (and if they don't, we'll see history repeat itself and things go badly....)

Voice your opinion on http://us.buuuz.com and start a revolution. Meet other babyboomers from all over America and create your own voice, strong and powerful, the way it deserves to be!

First, we Boomers are partly to blame for this emphasis on youth. Remember "Don't trust anyone over 30?" So I figure, if we started it we get to change it by sheer weight of our numbers.

Secondly, marketing people are starting to pay attention. Check out the book "Prime Time Women" by Marti Barleta. Boomers, particularly women, are determining the market place by our buying power.

Third, you see what you look for. If you start to pay attention to how vocal Boomers are becoming and the shifts that are happening in our culture then you'll see that Boomers aren't as ignored as you think they are. They are cropping up everywhere, on the net first.

Add your voice to the mix, not just on Boomer sites but on places like Facebook and Twitter. Start your own blog and talk about all the great positives of being a Boomer. Write to your local paper. Get interviewed on radio. Heck, stage a sit-in at the local college!
