I was about 2 to 3 years too young born in 1950 and graduated High School in 1969 to have taken part in the Hippie times of our history. Too young for Woodstock. But I was not too young to be greatly influenced by the Vietnam War

I was a Hippie during the late 60's and 70's. I went to Woodstock and participated in the Anti-War protests in DC and elsewhere.
What was your experience?
Lets share them here for others to give them a better understanding of what we were really about.

I graduated high school in 1970 and was a bit young for the hippie movement although all of my boyfriends had long hair. In high school I remember a friendsolder brother and his friends going off to Vietnam and returning with missing limbs and having post tramatic stress disorder. There was no respect for the veterans then and many of them are our homeless mentally ill population now. We should feel ashamed. I hope we learned our lesson by treating the men and women fighting in Iraq with dignity and respect. We had walk outs and love in's in high school and my parents would not allow me to go to Woodstock because I ws only 14/15 yrs. old but they did let me go to some pop festivals in Southern Florida. Drugs were everywhere and it was still cool for a girl to hitch hike. I was a surfer and hitched hike to the beach often and to high school. I remember my best friends parents when I was 15 years old gave us a ride to see the Monkies in Miami Beach. We drove from Cocoa Beach with signs in the car that said "Monkies or bust!" When we got to the concert, Jimi Hendrix was the opening act and we booed him off stage. He got pissed and walk ed off giving everyone the finger. Can you imagine? We did not realize how uncool we were until about a year later when Hendrix blew the music scene wide open.
When I left for college, I participated in some protest marches at FSU and became very political. I am still a liberal to this day and I don't care who wins the election as long as its either Barack or Hillary.

I graduated in 1967 as the all american boy, A student, four sport athlete, never had smoked a cigarette or tasted alcohol. Four years later, I had my long hair, torn jeans, dilated eyes, and was living off the street. It took me almost 20 years to get back to being a functional member of society.

hippies are one of the most wonderful groups of people in the world! i think that if people say anything about hippies that is a rude or false comment then they no nothing.
